Parents’ Alliance Jamaica is urging parents and guardians to become more vigilant about the care and supervision of children in their care after the gruesome rape and murder of the third eight-year-old Jamaican child this year.
Talia Thompson was a promising primary school student who excelled in local pageants and school activities. The Alliance’s President, Mr. George Goode, opines that the loss is insurmountable.
According to the Alliance’s President:
“Today another Jamaican family faces an insurmountable loss that is shared by the local community and wider Jamaican society”.
“The message is clear: in the current social climate, we as parents must exercise stricter controls over where our children go and who they are around, as no one can be trusted blindly.”
Greater Victim Support and Deterrence
The Alliance’s St. Ann Parish Association is expected to reach out to the affected family and Discovery Bay community where Talia resided. Meanwhile, its Executive will appeal to policy makers for greater victim support and deterrence against these heinous acts.
According to Mr. Goode, “Talia’s family joins those of Danielle Rowe and Nikkita Noel who also suffered the loss of their eight-year-old daughters to heartless criminals this year.”
In closing he noted that:
“These are symptoms of growing social and moral decay in the absence of effective deterrence strategies and even of a comprehensive treatment plan against criminal elements that are finding it too easy to flourish inside our relatively small country”.
